Introduction

Congratulations, your school is a finalist!! The Maine State Museum has chosen your school, along with several others, to submit a video detailing the pre-Civil War culture in one state (of you choosing) to be previewed, and possibly put in the exhibit foyer! Best of luck, the following steps will help you create your submission!

Task

The board of directors of the Maine State Museum have opened a Civil War exhibit! They are looking for student work to display in the exhibit, and have created a contest for all Maine High Schools. They are looking for a video that represents pre-Civil War states to put at the entry of the exhibit. They are looking for the video to depict life in society in a state in the North or the South (they would like to see Maine represented)! They want the students to act as historical figures and show the stress in both regions prior to the outbreak of war! The job for the students is to create several movies that are snapshots of states before the Civil War. Each movie should be no more than 5 minutes. The videos will be put together to create the entry to the board! The videos need to be at most 5 minutes long, historically accurate, in-depth, and cover all aspects of the motivations for the Civil War.

Conclusion

Congratulations on creating your video! Now it's up to the board to decide if it will be selected for public viewing. Hopefully you walk away with a new understanding of the struggles of life in 1850's America; between the oncoming war and brutal dividing of the country. Maybe this has prompted you to research other states during this time period, to see if they had a different experience than the one you studied - if not, at least you are walking away with some new content knowledge! Hopefully the board will call you soon!
